Electroluminescence of Conjugated Aromatic Polymers in Organic Light Emitting Diodes
نویسنده
چکیده
Organic electroluminescent materials have been the subject of intense research for use in light emitting diodes (LEDs). When compared with liquid crystal displays (LCDs), organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) require lower energy input, have a wider viewing angle with improved color contrast, and can be made much thinner. The electroluminescence (EL) of organic compounds was first demonstrated in 1953 by Bernanose but was not significantly developed until 1987 when Tang and Van Slyke constructed a device employing aluminum tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) 1 as the luminescent material. The first example of a polymer-based OLED was published by Friend et al. in 1990 in which poly(p-phenylene-vinylene) (PPV) 2 was used as the emissive layer. Since this discovery, many conjugated polymers have been developed for use in LEDs including poly(1,4-phenylene) (PPP) 3, poly(thiophene) 4, and polyfluorene 5.

Thin-film Encapsulation of Organic Light-Emitting Diodes Using Single and Multilayer Structures of MgF2, YF3 and ZnS
In this research, the lifetime of green organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) is studied using four passivation layers. To encapsulate the OLEDs, MgF2, YF3, composed of alternating MgF2/ZnS and YF3/ZnS layers were grown by thermal vacuum deposition. Measurements show that the device lifetime is significantly improved by using YF3 and ZnS as passivation layers. However, diodes encapsulated by Mg...

Principle of electroluminescence The light emission in the presented OLED is based on the formation of electron-hole-pairs within conjugated polymers with semiconducting properties. Therefore a suitable polymer like PPV (fig. 1) has to be placed between a transparent anode and a metallic cathode (fig. 2). By application of an electric voltage electrons (on the cathode side) and holes (on the an...

A recent advance in the field of light emitting polymers has been the discovery of electroluminescent conjugated polymers, that is, kind of fluorescent polymers that emit light when excited by the flow of an electric current. These new generation fluorescent materials may now challenge the domination by inorganic semiconductor materials of the commercial market in light-emitting devices such as...

Detailed experimental and theoretical analysis of the pulsed excitation of polymer light emitting diodes is presented. We find a set of universal transient features for a variety of device configurations ~different polymers/cathodes! which can be reproduced using our phenomenological numerical model. We find that the temporal evolution of the electroluminescence in response to a step voltage pu...

Hybrid light emitting diodes (LEDs) based on zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods and polymers (single and blended) are fabricated and characterized. The ZnO nanorods were grown by the chemical bath deposition method at 50 o C. Three different LEDs, either with blue emitting, orange-red emitting or their blended polymer together with ZnO nanorods were fabricated and studied. The current-voltage characteri...
